Student signing social contract

Student signing the social contract in a 3/4 multiage classroom.

As part of the district’s Capturing Kids’ Hearts initiative, students from preschool through high school are taking an active role in shaping the culture of their classrooms through the creation of social contracts. This program emphasizes the importance of building strong, respectful relationships between students and adults to enhance the learning environment. The process begins with students brainstorming in small groups about how they would like to be treated by their peers and teachers. This collaborative effort allows students to articulate their needs and expectations, fostering a sense of ownership and accountability.

After sharing their ideas with the entire class, students work together to reach a consensus on the final social contract. This agreement is then signed by both students and adults, solidifying a mutual commitment to uphold the principles outlined. By involving everyone in the creation and endorsement of these contracts, the Capturing Kids’ Hearts initiative not only promotes a respectful and supportive classroom atmosphere but also strengthens the sense of community and shared responsibility throughout the district.
